Went into Luxembourg with no knowledge of the place at all (typical english). Found millions of bloody steps and hills which is surprising as it's on the top of a mountain-ish hill. Played at tourests and went deep into the depths of the castle, 34meters of steps down and bloody loads more up. Learned about the city and its history, which was interesting and ended up on a little road train that took us around. If you're fit (I am so not) then you must walk around the walls as they yare monumental.
The people are really nice and friendly. They are switched on and have people walking around in yellow coats as tour helpers, you can ask them almost anything (including the good bars) and they will help. How come we don't think of these things in England).
Basically uneventful and touresty day. They are about to have a festival and there was a lot of music anad dancing around the place. shops were high dem and expensive and the place is absolutely crammed with restaurants - I forgot to add that about Amsterdam as there you caan eat in restauraants from anywhere in the worls, and I mean literally anywhere.

Amsterdam Day 2 tag:travellerspoint.com,2007-07-06:/blog/?domain=daddykins&thisblog_entryid=6&entryid=69900 2007-07-06T20:47:53Z 2007-07-06T20:47:53Z Awake and refreshed we headed into Amsterdam (apoligies for slurred writing as teeny bit tiddly at this time). Went to Ann Franks house, a must for any traveller. It's fantastic, superbly put together and I can't praise it enough for thought and content. Both of us learned things. After this and a bite to eat we went to go on a canal cruise. We ran through the rain (bloody heavy), paid 6 Euro and climbed on the canal boat. We then got off the boat, got our money back and looked for the real tourest cruise as we had actually got on a water bus. We eventually found the cruise and spent an hour seeing the sights. I reccommend this action to anyone, and if with a female (or should I say partner to be politically correct) go on the cruise with drinks or meal as they appear romantic and fun.
As we were getting off the boat, a young lady with exceptionally large floatation aids (in case she fell in the canal) asked me if I was stiff as I was stretching. I explained to her that what she said was not the best english and that someone, unlike myself, may construe her question wrongly.
We returned to the city after a wash and brush up and being hungry found a weird chineese restaurant where the portions were massive (well all portions are huge here) and where all the staff and family sat on the table next to us and had a meal themselves. At least the food must have been ok if they ate it.
Post this, and Neil being hungry still, I bought him some cake in the buldon bar. For some reason he became light headed and talked utter crap. He also blamed the walls for being in the wrong place as an excuse fr loosing at pool. At least he didn't fall over, as I did the day before, although I did have to rescue him from the tram as I don't think he realised that they were bigger and faster than he was.

Fritz and Tilly had no children, therefore, my brother and I are the closest living relatives. The questions now include: Is the Villa there still? who is living in it? what happened to the rest of the estate? etc. etc. The first step therefore is to knock on the door and say Hi.

I will keep you posted on this. BTW, if you happen to be a lawyer or have knowledge of italian customs etc. regarding wills, estate and property, say hi as I think we will need help on this one

He's 23 I'm 49 (trying to be 30). Its his 1st trip to Europe and so will introduce him to new cultures, for me the chance to see and wonder at some beautiful sights and maybe visit a couple of old haunts.
As we are away my daughter, Mellissa is also traveling around Europe, backpacking for 3 months. Alas we wont meet up, but hey, Hi Mel (http://mellissahurst.travellerspoint.com).
We head, after leaving on the 30th of June, for Amsterdamn for a couple of nights (father and son time) followed by 3 days total chill in Luxembourg. After that we travel to France for a week and then on to Italy where we search for (hopefully) our villa. (I will explain this later). A week later we head for Germany and the Grand Prix followed by 10 days of Germany, drinking, sight seeing, drinking and visiting old haunts of mine (I used to live in Germany).
Well thats the outline. I was going to add pics at this point, but, they are on my laptop and I'm not, lol. So will add them later.
